Spiritual Metaphysics

Spiritual Magic is one of the most misunderstood, sometimes feared concepts in our history. Fear is only another word for ignorance. The first evidence of magical practice – most likely Druidry – goes back over 25,000 years, where the survivors of the Ice Age carried their traditions from Russia and Persia to Europe and the British Isles.

There are monuments and cave paintings revealing that initiates would crawl into a darkened place – usually a cave or mound built for this purpose, and stay in darkness for several days, where they were totally deprived of all their senses. This practice is symbolic of entering the womb of the Goddess and being born again as a child of light.

The second period, 20,000 years later in around 3,000 BCE, is where we see the same practice of seeking rebirth within the Earth where great megalithic mounds were built – a good example being at New Grange in Ireland, where a shaft of light is oriented to the Winter Solstice sunrise so that the dawn rays can bathe the initiate in sunlight after their journey through the night. Stone Henge was constructed around this time, where a shaft of light touches the center stone at mid-winter.

The What Is Of Spiritual Metaphysics

This initiation process was also practiced in the pyramids of Egypt, where there is undeniable evidence suggesting that visitors from Orion passed on their advanced technology and geometric knowledge of how the universe and life etc. all work. The culture demonstrated considerable knowledge of astronomy, advanced technology and engineering skills including geometric knowledge beyond even today’s understanding. Most of the Egyptian head-busts depict a race of people with enlarged Pineal and pointed ears, scientifically proven to be not of our genetic imprint.

Four and a half thousand years later, in the sixteenth century the key text of Druid spirituality, translated by Christian scribes, talks about the magical training of a Druid, in which the initiate is eaten by a Goddess, enter her belly, and is reborn as the greatest poet of the land. (The Romance of Taliesin). At this point, the oral tradition was recorded and reveals a highly sophisticated religious system, with three types of Druids: The Bards, who knew the songs and stories of the tribe, the Ovates, who were the healers and seers and the Druids who were the intellectual elite, the philosophers, judges, and teachers.

With the coming of Christianity, we enter the third period where most of the Druids were said to be converted to the new religion. But what people fail to understand is the resilience of spiritual teachings, when they are encoded in myth and stories and it is thanks to the early Christian scribes for recording these tales that we can be inspired by them today.

This period lasted for a thousand years from the triumph of Christianity over all of Europe by the sixth century to the sixteenth century. Even St. Patrick, who was sainted for eradicating the ‘snakes’ (Druids) from Ireland, managed to record all of the old Druid laws before he did, with invaluable information of the ethics and social structure of pre-Christian Celtic culture.

The Heart Of The Magi

The fourth period begins with the sixteenth century when scholars in Europe investigated ancient literature and began to question the motives of the church. The church had taught that the Druids were savages until the arrival of Christianity, but the intellectuals and philosophers of this time began to discover that they were far from it and started the Druid Revival.

The founding father of the science of archaeology, William Stukeley formed a Druid society in London and referred to the Princess of Wales as his Patroness. It helped to know people in high places in those days. Cultural festivals, incorporating Druid ceremonies, and celebrating Celtic languages grew up in Wales, Cornwell, and Brittany. And this revival is still going. It has developed into a Renaissance, as more and more people find with Druidry and other forms of Witchcraft have become a living spirituality that holds all of nature sacred and that offers a path of creativity.

Today, there are two branches of Mysticism; one is Yoga and the other is Magic. Both these spiritual metaphysics are art forms that aim to achieve the same thing, union with the Divine. Yoga techniques involve disciplines to empty the mind completely, to undermine the foundation or structure of consciousness with many scientific steps and techniques.

Why Of Metaphysical Magic

Spiritual Magic, on the other hand, endeavors to rise above the mundane realm of thought by exalting the mind to its highest level through exercising the imagination and will of the practitioner. Both aim to consciously hand the body’s activities over to the Higher-Self. Perhaps the ideal means of identifying one’s consciousness with the Universal Essence is a combination of both Yoga and Spiritual Magic.

If there is a danger in Magic it arises when the practitioner sets out to achieve results without the precise knowledge of what it is that s/he is doing, and/or for the purpose of appeasing the ego. Some may be tempted to manipulate their personal circumstances without considering the repercussions of their actions, dabbling in areas about which they have little understanding and without formal training.

Spiritual Magic goes against the grain of mundane life. It tends towards the path of least resistance. Its aim is to effect change in both inner and outer reality through the awareness and manipulation of unseen, therefore occult but powerful forces. Spiritual Magic demands focus, discipline, tenacity, and courage.

These things were once taught as a part of every day living and were deeply integrated within the culture, but have now sadly been suppressed for reasons we may never know. When you take away a person’s will, you take away their power. The Magi is the master of healing energy. We create for it suitable instruments of expression, and we call it forth with the magic wand of our will.

The aim of the Magi is to reform and regenerate our disposition, our character, and our temperament. We overcome those bad habits and relationships, negative attitudes and false beliefs, which draw use less energy to us and cultivate behavior that serves us, and therefore others. We respect that all life is part of us. That everything has its function in the large scheme of things. We aim to purify our being. A concept that is basically very simple in theory but not always so easy in practice.

Golden Dawn Of Magik

According to the tradition of the Golden Dawn, there were ten grades, which are associated with the Sephiroth of the Tree of life, plus the probationary degree for the Neophytes. In this tradition, it is vital for the student to first learn about the foundation of magic, not the practice, before advancing through the grades. Those who disregard the safeguards of the system often fall prey to mental delusion and ego-inflation. Much of today’s Wiccan and Pagan Magical teachings are based largely on Hermatica and the Egyptian Emerald Tablets attributed to the mythical Hermes Trismegistus, or “thrice-great Hermes”. (The combined Egyptian and Greek deities of Thoth and Hermes, respectively.) The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn was one of the most influential occult societies of the late 19th Century. The key founders of this movement were Dr William Wynn WescottSamuel Macgregor Mathers, and the Rev. A. F. A. Woodland.

There seems to have been a lot jostling amongst even these highly advanced adepts, but the result has been that the knowledge is now recorded again for the discerning aspirant to wade through at their leisure.

Later Aleister Crowley became involved in the Pagan Federation and was instrumental in establishing a network and peer group support for Wiccans and Pagans in Britain and Europe. Today’s artistry owes much to the genius of these and other Alchemists, mathematicians and astrologers whose research and principals have been absorbed into keeping alive the rituals of modern Witchcraft.

The Who Is Of Spiritual Metaphysics

Magic is logical and practical and scientifically founded. Is it any wonder that we have rebuked the Religions and medical practices of today? It’s mind control and that’s scary in any language. Old Sciences teach us how to take charge of our lives by living purposefully. Put simply it is the recognition that we are the power behind our thoughts and that these thoughts are the things that will become manifest in our world. We are what we think. It is a way of living in accordance with our true nature, which is the core of all creation. This core is healthily balanced and silent.

The power that made your body heals it from the inside out. How bizarre, that we continue to give our power away to a diseased industry of barbaric butchers which claims to heal it from the outside in. Healing begins in our spiritual center. Most people’s spiritual center is dead.

As we experience this turning point in our evolution, the Mystical truths of the past are becoming public knowledge once again, offering information, which was once a well-protected secretWe have become so disconnected from Nature that the survival of our species is under threat. We need to bring back a nature-based philosophy, which can help us to get back in touch with the natural arts again. Our spiritual metaphysics needs to be ecological for our survival as a species and for that of the planet.

Much of the old magical and healing wisdom has been plowed into the mists of yesteryear, lost to the madness of other eras and cultural dogmas, which forced a lot of these natural sciences underground for their survival. The last time a group of people tried to point out the obvious imbalance in nature, they were murdered en-mass and have been persecuted ever since.

There have always been groups of people on the planet who have chosen to consciously dedicate their lives to keeping the gateway between heaven and earth open. To keep the magic alive. Most of them work in private, some work in groups and others as solitary practitioners, and their number is far greater than the average person would suspect.

We live, eat and breathe in spiritual metaphysics its a magical universe. Aleister Crowley said, “Every intentional act is a Magical Act.” Magic is all around us and part of our everyday life, which we seem to take for granted. Each time we dwell on a thought, make a decision or create a project that manifests in the material world we are performing magic. There’s nothing mysterious about that. Magic is a power that lies deep within the human soul and is our nature. Some people just do it consciously, that’s all.

For those who choose to live it with awareness, the main axiom of magic is to “Know Thyself.” – © Druid Priestess OBOD Jyoti Eagles
